Rien n’est vrai, rien,
au delà du coq qui chante au fond de la pelouse
comme un chérubin hérissant ses ailes
dans le vent impétueux qui le ravit en extase.

Et dans l’obscurité de la grange rien
au delà du cri déchirant de l’agneau
pour célébrer le jour de Noël.

Le rythme du cœur arraché de la côte
nous l’entendrons seulement quand
nous aurons donné aux larmes le sens sombre
que cette vie nous cache.

apart the cock that sings at the bottom of the lawn
like a cherub bristling his wings
in the impetuous wind that delights him in ecstasy.

And in the darkness of the barn nothing
apart  the lamb’s lacerating cry 
to celebrate Christmas Day.

The rhythm of the heart torn from the rib
